Pet shop stars - New South Wales

Not all pet shops are created equal - some have realised no pets in store mean loyal customers follow, while some still have pets in glass boxes and staff who know nothing about the animals they sell.

Below is a list of pet shops in New South Wales that are pet free. If your local store doesn't sell pets and is not on the list, please let us know and we'll include them here!

Simply Anything 4 Pets

1/308 Darling St, Balmain New South Wales 2041

"My local pet shop, Simply Anything 4 Pets, doesn't sell and also advertises that they don't support selling of any animals in cages. They are totally against impulse buying and the pressure other pet shops put on customers to buy these poor pups & not forgetting kittens. One of the owners worked for a chain of pet shops that did sell puppies and after that experience she left and opened her own! The only dogs you find in the shop are the customers and their owners."

Maroubra Pet Supplies

185 Maroubra Road, Maroubra Junction New South Wales 2035

"I would like to promote my local pet supplies shop, he doesn't sell puppies or kittens. I have been buying from them for over 15 years, they are the best pet supplies shop in the area."

Petcare Superstore

Harvey Norman Centre, Greenway Dve, Tweed Heads South New South Wales 2486

"Petcare Superstore at South Tweed has always supported us in so many ways. They have a permanent large cage in the store just for our kittens or cats. They have now given us space in the store (and built it) for a ‘Pet Adoption Booth’, all we had to pay for was an LCD screen for a slide show of all our animals at the pound and in foster care, for which we had a grant from the Council. They have recently put in another bigger cage for the kittens and the other cage is for an adult cat, the kittens are taken home each night by one of the staff and the adult cat is taken home by Kylie who owns the store! It is wonderful to have that support." - Lisa, Friends of the Hounds

Pet Care 2000 Warehouse

240 Taren Point Rd, Caringbah New South Wales 2229

"5 stars for Pet Care 2000 Warehouse at Yagoona. Their staff are knowable on food and accessories and they advertise rescue dogs on signs around the counter. There are no live puppies or kittens for sale. The day they ever do my money goes elsewhere." - Dianne

PETstock

Multiple locations across New South Wales

"I was informed that my local Petstock is pet-free and I was very happy to hear that they have a pet-free policy in all stores. They have had a very positive response from their customers. They are now referring customers to the RSPCA & other animal shelters promoting adoption. They have won me back as a customer and I let them know that I would add them to your list of Pet Shop Stars. This may be old news to you but it made my day. I am overjoyed at their new policy. If a large company like Petstock can change their ways then the campaign is working and we are on our way to putting puppy farms out of business." - Michelle

"I would like to mention the the Pet Stock franchise as being stars. Specifically the Sunshine branch contacted DOGS Victoria for Responsible Dog Ownership materials. The manager there said so many people came into his shop looking for puppies and he tried to explain to them why they shouldn’t buy puppies from a pet shop. He wanted some printed material to give his customers to discourage them from doing so. Good on Pet Stock!" - Karen

"Hi, I always patronise Petstock Ballarat as they do not sell pups or kittens in their stores." - Eileen

"I think the franchise chain called Pet Stock need to be congratulated.
The do no sell dogs and cats through their stores. They are very proactive in their local communities, supporting local business and they encourage responsible pet ownership, with puppy pre schools etc. I have frequented two stores here in Adelaide – the Parafield store and the recently opened Prospect store. All staff are knowledgeable and friendly." -
